Well, I finally got my inspiration back. I wrote a song. I recorded it. I like it. It's pretty much done but I do need to tweak some volume levels (mainly just tweak the compression on the acoustic guitar).

Please check it out and tell me what you think:
http://stsnyder.bol.ucla.edu/FloatOnBy(unmastered).mp3

Credit given as credit is deserved:

Vocals: me
Drums: me and general MIDI!
Acoustic guitar: meeeeee
electric guitars: meeeee!!!!
bass: meeeeeeeeeee!!!
background noise: mom filling up the bath tub, my feet knocking things over, computer fan humming

I know Drew was considering equipment for a home studio, so for some ideas here is what I used for this:
Everything was recorded into a Soundblaster Live in Windows 2000. Software used was Sonar 2.
Bass: Danelectro Innueno direct in through an Audio Buddy Preamp
Acoustic Guitar: old 70's Takamine steel string recorded with an AKG C2000B condensor mic through the Audio Buddy Preamp
Electric Guitar: the one and only Stevocaster with a '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue, recorded with the AKG C2000B mic slightly off center, 10db cut switch activated, through the Audio Buddy Preamp.
Drums: just MIDI
Vocals: AKG C2000B through the audio buddy preamp

Hopefully there will be more to come!

kthxbye!!!!

Very nice. I was wondering when we'd get to hear some music from you. I really liked the guitar solo. Singing was pretty good. Quality was really great especially for a home studio. Hope to hear more soon. Let me know if you ever want to put some stuff up on the main site.

I'm glad you guys like it.

I tweaked the mix a bit so it works better with less adequate sound systems (especially where there isn't enough stereo seperation), and got rid of the nasty compression on the acoustic guitar. The guitars in the solo are now panned hard left and right because I was having problems with a lack of stereo seperation when listening to it in the car.
How are the levels now? I think the vocals are too loud, but I always set them too quietly according to others, so I'm not sure.
Here's the newer mix:

Fragments of Living. It was an album I never finished with a band I was in back in high school, I use for my own stuff now.

I'm really digging the guitars in this song. Singing needs work in some places but is pretty good in others. Overall a pretty solid track.
